Global public debt surpassed $108 trillion in 2024, with developing countries carrying over $31 trillion, and facing debt-servicing costs that now exceed their health and education budgets. To move beyond this reality, innovative solutions must be deployed outside existing mechanisms. The Social Solidarity Currency is one possible innovation to address this issue. The Social Solidarity Currency is a personal proposal developed by the author and does not reflect the views or official positions of the UN Special Envoy on Financing for Development, the United Nations, or any affiliated institution.
